    • The John Mühlemann household appeared twice in the 1880 U.S. census of St. Louis, Missouri, on Monday, June 7 and again on Tuesday, June 8, each time visited by a different enumerator.
           Among other discrepancies between this two sources, George appeared as a child in only one enumeration.

    •      According to the 1880 U.S. census for St. Louis, George Mühlemann was living at 9715 Wyandotte. He was identified as a 33 year old laborer in the hardware trade, born in Missouri and married for seven years to his wife, Mary, age 27, born in Minnesota. Mary was identified as the mother of two children, both still living, namely, Ruth, age 4, and George, age 2, both born in Missouri.
           Also living in the home was Minnie Sprenemann, a 37 year old, widowed, sister-in-law of George, born in Minnesota, and her only child, Paul Sprenemann, age 15, born in Missouri, a laborer in a shoe factory.
           The seventh member of the household was George's 71 year old, widowed, aunt, Louise Neunhaus. She was born in Germany and still spoke German. The date of her immigration to the USA is recorded but difficult to decipher; perhaps it is 1873 or 1875?

    •      As enumerated in the 1920 U.S. census for St. Louis, George, age 42, born in Missouri, was living at 1126 South Thirteenth Street. He worked as a foreman at a dairy. Mary, his wife, was 39 years old, born in Minnesota.
           George and Mary had four children living with them: Ruth, age 14; George, age 12; Le Roy, age 7; and Elmer, age 5. The enumerator identified all of the children as having been born in Minnesota, like their mother, but this would seem to be a mistake. Other sources seem to indicate that all the children were born in Missouri.
           Also living in the home was Mike Eckert, identified as a 50 year old, single, brother-in-law of the head of the household, who worked as a bottler in a brewery.

      For [Katherine?] Mayer. "________ Mayer, geb. Etlinger geliebte Gattin von John Mayer,...ging ein zur ewigen Ruhe nach längerem Leiden am Montag, den 27. Januar 1908,.... Die Tiefbetrübte Familie:...Geo. Muehlemann, Sohn." From an undated and unidentified [St. Louis?] German-language newspaper clipping in the possession of the Gerber family of St. Louis, Missouri.       Letters of Administration; dated and signed 20 March 1916; John Dinsbeer [sic], executor, "to whom letters testamentary were heretofore granted on the estate of said deceased [Margaretha Etling] has since departed this life; ...these letters of administration de bonis non with the will annexed are hereby granted to George L. Gerber." The sixth and seventh paragraphs of Margaretha's will, signed 15 February 1911, read: "To the grand children of my deceased Daughter Katherinne [sic] my eldest daughter, I will each five dollars.
            "George Muelheman [sic] I give five Dollars. to Frederick Muelheman [sic] I give five Dollars. to Charlotte Muelheman I give five dollars. to my grand children, Elisabeth Meyer I give five Dollars. to August Meyer, I give five Dollars.

      Letter from the office of Finkelnburg & Rassieur, attorneys at law; dated 16 December 1876. The letter includes a list of surviving heirs of August Etling. Identified as one of his children is Catharine Augusta Muehlemann, nee Etling, wife of John Muehlemann.

Muehlemann, Sohn; Charlotte Bowe, geb. Muehlemann, To[chter?]." Three people who claimed Muehlemann as a last name signed the newspaper notice of Katherine (Etling) Mayer's death and identified themselves as her two sons and daughter. From an undated and unidentified [St. Louis?] German-language newspaper clipping in the possession of the Gerber family of St. Louis, Missouri. Margaretha Etling, widow of August Etling, declared on 16 December 1876 that August Etling died on or about 7 December 1876; that he left no known will; that his estate does not exceed the sum of $4,000; and "that to the best of her knowledge there are the following named heirs of August Etling...." Identified as one of his children is Augusta, wife of John Muehlmann; residing in St. Louis County.
