Missouri State Board of Health, Certificate of Death #3985. For Erwin Etling. Born 1 October 1875 at St. Louis, Missouri. Father's name: Benjamin Etling, born in Germany. Mother's maiden name: Mary Eckhard, born in Germany. Erwin died 29 January 1920 at10:47 p.m. at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 44 years, 3 months, 28 days. His residence had been 3707 N. Broadway, Ward 2. He had been a pipe fitter for Mallinckrodt Chemical Works. He was divorced at the time of death; his wife had been Ida Etling. Cause of death: "lobar pneumonia" of 3 days duration. Contributory cause was "Purpura abdominali[?] (Herroch's)" of 7 days duration. The disease was contracted at home; there was no operation prior to death; there was an autopsy. Burial, cremation or removal was to be at or to St. Mathews on 2 February 1920. The undertaker was Stock und Co., 2117 E. Grand. Personal information was provided by Charles Etling, of 310 Ellwood Street. Anthony B. Day, M.D., of Barnes Hospital, attended the deceased from 22 January 1920 to 29 January 1920 and signed the death certificate on 30 January 1920. The certificate was filed with the local registrar on 2 February.
