- Curtis Dombek reports the family's possession of a protestant hymnal bearing the following inscriptions, translated from the German. "Johnnes Menn in Hilchenbach March 23, 1845. This is his book". "Elisabeth Lehmann married John Menn Oct. 21, 1850 in St. Louis". "On August 15, 1851, our daughter Wilhelmina was born in St. Louis." "John Menn died Jan. 19, 1855".

- Curtis Dombek found an entry for the marriage of Johann and Elisabeth in the records of Trinity Lutheran Church, in the Soulard area of St. Louis. He gives the following translation of the entry: "Johann Menn, second son of the late Johann Menn from Helberhausen, near Siegen, Prussia, married to Elisabeth Lehmann, oldest daughter of the late Christian Lehmann Oct. 21, 1850. The witnesses were Gottlieb Frey and Wilhelm Menn." Helberhausen is a section of Hilchenbach.
