Meyer, St. Louis, Missouri; that he was married with two children; and that he was seeking exemption from the draft because he was "Deaf + Dumb." The Registrar of the local draft board, F. W. Clemson, described John as five feet, seven inches tall and of a slender build; with blue eyes and brown hair. He noted that John was disabled because he was "Dief & Dumm."
