"...H. H. and Christine (Feggenbaum [sic]) Schroer, natives of Germany, who came to this country following their marriage and for a time thereafter made their home in Cincinnati.... H. H. Schroer was a tailor by trade and upon locating at Cincinnati following his arrival in this country set up as a tailor and was for a few years thus engaged in that city."

"Herman Heinrich and Christina Elsabein, with their oldest child, Herman Henry, migrated to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio in 1836 from Ladbergen. He was a "Schneider" which originally meant "cutter" and was analogous with the Old French word trailleur which is where we get tailor. Before the advent of store-bought clothes, tailors were in great demand and supply. Herman Heinrich being a tailor by trade set up a business in Cincinnati briefly."

This farm was located in Van Buren Township, the Northwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of Section Thirty-Five (35), Town Number Six (6), Range Number 5 East."

"He [H. H. Schroer, Frederick's father] then became attracted to the possibilities awaiting land settlement up in this part of Ohio and came up here and bought a small farm in Shelby county and started in clearing the place and getting a start as a farmer."

"Some years later they sold these holdings [in Van Buren Township] and purchased eighty acres for $3.75 an acre on July 20, 1847. This farm was located in Auglaize County, Washington Township, the East-Half of the Northwest Quarter of Section Twenty-Seven (27), Town Number Six (6) South, Range Number 5 East. Later they purchased an additional forty acres for $25.00 an acre on January 9, 1869. This was in Washington Township, the Northeast Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section Twenty-Seven (27), Town Number Six (6) South, Range Number 5 East. This is where the family grew up and Herman and Christina spent the rest of their life in this area as farmers."

"Some years later he [H. H. Schroer, Frederick's father] disposed of his holding there [in Shelby County, Ohio] and moved up into Auglaize county and bought a farm of eighty acres in the New Knoxville neighborhood, where he established his home and spent the rest of his life. His widow survived him for some years increasing her holdings to 120 acres.
