"On March 16, 1826, John Springer married the young widow of George Biggs, Elizabeth Byrd Biggs, daughter of John Byrd. Although there is no record of the marriage in either Madison or St. Clair County, it is verified by a notice in the 'Edwardsville Spectator' for March 25, 1826: 'On March 16, 1826, John Springer of Madison County and Mrs. Elizabeth Biggs of St. Clair County were married by the Reverend Joseph Oglesby, M. G.' A similar notice appeared soon after in the 'Illinois Intelligencer', published at Vandalia."
