    • Simon married two sisters, Theresa and Christina. Their surname appears as either Springer, Springel, or Sprenger. The exact spelling of the surname remains to be confirmed. The 1860 U.S. Census enumeration shows two children in the household who do not appear in subsequent census returns: John Winter, age 3 (born about 1856-57) and Christina Winter, age 1 (born about 1858-59). These names are also not included in genealogical reports from other researchers. It is not known at this time if these are children of Simon and Christina who died in infancy or were only temporary members of the household in 1860.

Mena Hanke; widow; married 11 years; mother of 6 children (3 still living). Given that the eldest child in the household at the time of the enumeration was 10 years of age and Mena was reported to have been married for 11 years, it is possible that she was married about 1888-1889; this speculation requires confirmation. In the 1910 U. S. Census, Mena was identified as the mother of 3 children, 3 of whom were still alive.
