Joseph Kiefer, husband of Barbara Klaus and father of Adelheid Kiefer. The family name has also been spelled Kieffer and Kuefer. "Barbara [his wife], died of Cholera while Joe (husband) was looking for a farm. Joe later did buy a farm on the north side of the road, half way between New Hamburg and Oran, MO."

The Joseph and Barbara (Klaus) Kiefer family immigrated to the USA about 1856. They landed at New Orleans, Louisiana and traveled up the Mississippi River to Commerce, Missouri. The family settled on a farm "on the north side of the road, half way between New Hamburg and Oran, MO."

Joseph Kiefer and Barbara Klaus; married. Arline (Krumm) Gerber reports that the couple emigrated from Germany to the USA about 1856 and one of their children died during the voyage. It may assumed that the marriage took place in Germany.
