One of her babies died from Cholera at sea and she hid it in a trunk for 2 months so that she could bury it properly on land. Barabara also died of Cholera while Joe (husband) was looking for a farm. Joe later did buy a farm on the north side of the road, half way between New Hamburg and Oran, MO."

Joseph Kiefer and Barbara Klaus; married. Arline (Krumm) Gerber reports that the couple emigrated from Germany to the USA about 1856 and one of their children died during the voyage. It may assumed that the marriage took place in Germany.
