Georg Jacob Gerber; born 1 June 1830 (citing information from the evangelical church records in Bahlingen, Germany).
Arline attributes almost all of the information on the 11 children of Mathias and Barbara Gerber to the work of Jim and Marylouise Yale. Arline identifies Marylouise as a descendant of Franz Anton Mueller, brother of Francesca Mueller (wife of George Jacob Gerber) and also father of Francesca Mueller (wife of Otto H. Gerber). This information was sent to Howard Seesler, who forwarded it to Elizabeth M. Gerber in 1996, who shared it with J. Mark Fiegenbaum in 2002.

On page 39 of a genealogical report prepared (by Robert E. Parkin?) for Howard J. Seesler, it is stated that George Jacob Gerber and Franceska Mueller were married in 1858 shortly before their emigration from Baden, and that their first child, George Louis Gerber was born on 20 October 1859 shortly after their arrival in St. Louis. Pinpointing the exact date is further complicated by the fact the in the 1860 U.S. Census, George L. Gerber is identified as having been born in Baden, while in subsequent federal cenuses, his place of birth is given as St. Louis.

"About 1858, apparently as he was about to set out for the United States, he was married to Franceska Mueller, 27 year old daughter of Michael and Margaret (Muckaborn) Mueller, also of Baden. Franceska was born on July 25, 1831. Some of her Mueller relatives apparently immigrated at the same time as the newlyweds, and also settled in St. Louis....In all, Franceska and George - often familiarly called "Jake" - had six sons. Those, in addition to George L. Gerber [born October 20, 1859], were Otto H. Gerber, born in 1864; Philip Adolph Gerber, born in 1867; Gustav B. Gerber, born in July, 1869 (St. Louis Census 1870:Ward 3:34 [#386]:16-23); Frederick William Gerber, born in 1871, and Rudolph M. Gerber, who was born in 1875 (St. Louis Census 1880:ED 159:15 [#161]:23-29 [2nd])." From page 39 of a genealogical report prepared (by Robert E. Parkin?) for Howard J. Seesler.

In an autobiographical sketch written on Christmas 1978, Rudolph recalls that his grandfather, George Jacob Gerber, married Fancesca Mueller in 1838. This date appears to be a typographical error. Francesca (or Franceska) died in 1924 at the age of 93 (an age at death which Rudolph also mentions in his memoir). These dates would give her a birth year of 1831. It seems unlikely that she would have married in 1838 at the age of 7.
