Christian, his wife (who name is not yet known) and at least two children, August and Benjamin, immigrated to St. Louis from Alsfeld, Grand Duchy of Hesse, in 1846.
Military Service:
Christian Etling enlisted on 2 September 1861 at St. Louis in the First Regiment, US Reserve Corps, Missouri Infantry, serving in Company H under Captain Leonard. He entered as a Corporal and left service with the rank of Sergeant. He was discharged on 23 June 1862 at St. Louis because of an inguinal hernia.
Buried:
Christian was first buried in Holy Ghost Cemetery. The body was later moved to St. Matthew Cemetery at 4360 Bates Street.
Died:
Documents filed with the St. Louis Probate Court state that Christian Etling died "on or about" 25 October 1875. His gravestone in St. Matthew Cemetery in St. Louis shows a date of death of 24 October 1875.
