According to the 1930 U.S. enumeration, the household at 923 Grand Avenue, in Ward 1, consisted of John Dippold, head of household, age 80; his daughter, Margaret Fiegenbaum, age 51, widowed, a self-employed dressmaker working out the home; and his grandson, Bruce Fiegenbaum, age 22, single, a truck driver of candy, tobacco, etc.

John Dippold, Feed Merchant for Many Years, Dies Today
Worked in Old Cooper Mill at Bethalto
Edwardsville, Oct. 18 — (Special.) — John Dippold, 83, resident of Edwardsville and Bethalto for most of his life, died at his home, 923 Grand avenue, at 4:30 a. m., today. Death resulted from old age and complications that have necessitated a doctor's care since April.
Born on a farm northeast of here April 14, 1849, Dippold assisted his father, Martin, in the cooper trade in Edwardsville while a boy. He married Katherine Miller, Oct. 22, 1873, and the young couple moved to Vandalia, Mo., where they remained a year before returning here.
Spending a year in Edwardsville, Mr. and Mrs. Dippold moved to Bethalto, where Dippold worked in the large flour mill built there at that time. They were residents of that village for 18 years, after which they again returned to Edwardsville.
In 1894, John Dippold, with two brothers, Fred and Edward, founded the Dippold Bros., flour and feed elevator, which still retains the name. It is now partially owned by his son, Arthur. Although interested in the business, the older gentlemen had not taken an active part in it for some time.
He has been a staunch and active member of the I. O. O. F. lodge for 49 years.
Only three children of the eight born survive. They are Mrs. Margaret Fiegenbaum and Arthur J. Dippold, of Edwardsville; and George Dippold, of Springfield, Mo. He also leaves two brothers and one sister, Martin Dippold and Mrs. Adolph Klingel, of this place; and Fred Dippold of Banger, Calif. His wife preceded him in death 12 years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the Marks-Weber funeral home and burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. The Rev. Carl L. Attig, of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate and the Odd Fellows will hold services at the cemetery.

According to the 1900 U.S. enumeration, the household at Grand Avenue, in Ward 1, consisted of John Dippold, a 51 year old feed store keeper, and his wife of 26 years, Catharine Dippold, age 47, the mother of eight children, six of whom were still living. Those six unmarried children were also members of the household: Albert Dippold, age 25, a cooper; Margaret Dippold, age 22, a dressmaker; Annie Dippold, age 18; George Dippold, age 14, in school; William Dippold, age 11, in school, and Arthur Dippold, age 8, in school.

Also living in the home were two children of John and Kathrine: William Dippold, age 21, single, working at an elevator; and Arthur Dippold, age 18, single, a tinner at a hardware store. The household also included the head of household's son-in-law, Sam McKittrick, age 36, a widower, a machinist at a manufacturing works; and Ralph McKittrick, age 3, identified as the head of household's grandchild.
John and Katharine Miller's fourth child, Anna Dippold, had married Samuel E. McKittrick in 1905. She died in 1907.

Also in the household was Margaret Fiegenbaum, identified as the daughter of the head of household, age 42, widowed and self-employed at home as a dressmaker; Paul G. Fiegenbaum, identified as the grandson of a head of household, age 13 and attending school; and Bruce O. Fiegenbaum, identified as a grandson of the head of household, age 12 and attending school.
Margaret Dippold had married George Edward Fiegenbaum in 1905. He had died in 1910.
