Lauren Michel is a grand-daughter of Viola Marie Pieckenbrock.
"As far as I know, 'Pieckenbrock' is the correct spelling. ... My mother always called her grandmother Emily Pieckenbrock, 'Grandma Pieckie,' which is how the name sticks in my memory."

Clarence Pickenbrock, son of Albert Pickenbrock and Nancy Rittgers, was born on 9 July 1877 at Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa.
Gretchen Leenerts reported that she was given her spelling of the family name - Pickenbrock - from a niece of Emily Louise (Sexauer) Pieckenbrock, who at the time was president of the Ankeny, Iowa Historical Society.

Acknowledging the many way varieties of spelling for the Piekenbrock family name which appear in historical records, Janet wrote "our Piekenbrock heritage from Westphalia and continued to this country in 1849, has always used the Piekenbrock spelling." She noted that Louise Victoria Piekenbrock Thompson, her mother's first cousin, in preparing her own genealogical history, had spelled her maiden name, "Piekenbrock."

Clarence Pickenbrock and Emily Louise Sexauer were married on 5 March 1901 at Ankeny, Polk County, Iowa.

A transcription supplied by Frances Gretchen (Klein) Leenerts of an account of the 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Friedrich William and Louisa (Otto) Fiegenbaum. Gretchen Leenerts did not identify when and where this report was published, but it seems likely it appeared in the Holt County Sentinel, of Oregon, Missouri.
Listed in attendance at the celebrations at Oregon, Missouri were "Mrs. C. W. Pickenbrock and husband of Ellston, Iowa." The couple was also identified as "Mr. and Mrs. Clara Piekenbrock, Ellston, Iowa."

A transcription supplied by Frances Gretchen (Klein) Leenerts of an obituary for Mathew Sexauer. Gretchen Leenerts reported that the obituary had appeared on 2 April 1928 in the Des Moines Register, of Des Moines, Iowa.
"Mr. Sexauer is survived by...two daughters...Mrs. Emily Pickenbrock, ...both of Des Moines...."
