The return certified that John Demand, of Kansas City, Kansas, a "Preacher of the M E Church," did marry the above name persons in Jackson County, Missouri on 1 March 1893 and filed the Certificate of Marriage with the County Recorder on 9 March 1893. With his signature, Rev. Demand identified himself as the Presiding Elder of the Missouri District of the West Grove Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
