Otto Herman Knapheide was born on 10 September 1888 at Levasy, Missouri. He, residing at 1105 South Main Street, Independence, Missouri, was inducted into the U. S. Army at Independence, Missouri on 15 June 1918. His Army serial number was 3,450,813. He served in "MD unassigned to discharge." He was appointed Private in December 1919. There are no dates given for overseas service. He was discharged honorably. Upon discharge, he was was not reported disabled.

Mother's maiden name: Matilda [sic] M. Schnieder [sic]. Died at 5:00 a.m. on 23 April 1952 at Lexington, Lafayette County, Missouri, 2 miles south on 13 Highway at the age of 52 years, 7 months, 13 days. His usual residence was Lexington, Lafayette County, Missouri, 2 miles south on 13 Highway. He was married at the time of death; his wife's name was Charlotte [Ru-d?] Knapheide. He was a farm laborer. He was a veteran of World War I. His social security number was 490-24-24[9? or 4?]4. Cause of death was "Suicide by gun shot. Shot in middle of forehead by 22 calibre rifle - this man has been a patient in a mental hospital several years ago." Death was instantaneous. The death was described as a suicide by gunshot at his home at Lexington, Lafayette County, Missouri, at 5:00 a.m. on 23 April 1952. There was no autopsy. Burial was to be 27 April 1952 in Buckner Cemetery at Buckner, Missouri. Faust F. Tempel, of Lexington, Missouri, was the funeral director. Personal information provided by Mrs. Otto Knapheide, of Lexington, Missouri. W. E. Martin, MD, of Odessa, Missouri, had attended the deceased after death on 23 April 1952 and signed the death certificate on 23 April 1952. The certificate was received by the local registrar on 30 April 1952.
